John Michael “Mike” Lyles

Mike joins Green Real Estate Education in our Building Systems Division. As a Sr. Instructor for this division, offers his expertise as a LEED for Homes Field Rater and a Florida Green Building Coalition Certifying Agent. He is a veteran Adult Educator with over 25 years experience teaching adults in various environments. With a Master’s degree in Adult Education from the University of South Florida, Mike has designed curriculum and taught low income families basic living skills and has worked with non-traditional community educators on updating their teaching skills.

In addition, his most recent training was teaching a contractor to build to LEED for Homes certification standards. Over the last 15 months he has been supervising the construction of his own new home, expected to be LEED for Homes Platinum certified. In addition to the LEED certification the new home will also be certified as Florida Green Building Coalition “Green”, be certified as a Florida Water Star home, have certification as a Florida Yards and Neighborhood Florida Friendly Yard and be submitted for the Florida Home Builders Associations Aurora Award, presented to the best new home of each year. When you attend one of Mike’s classes don’t expect to just sit and get information. His classes are interactive, with lots of participation and liberally sprinkled with his quirky humor.
